FAQs

Q: Do I need a website?
A: If you have been asked by clients or potential clients if you have a website or how they can view your website and you were embarrassed to say "No" then the answer is, Yes, it's time for a website! Consumers seeking every kind of service will look for information about your your company online. From your operating hours to your location(s) and a means of contacting you, most consumers will go to the web for this information. A web presence is your opportunity to show your potential customers what sets you apart from your competitors. Is it your experience in the industry? Is it your competitive pricing? Maybe it's it your quality of work and customer service. This is your opportunity to expand your marketing strategy to it's fullest potential. Your website is also an extension of your business reaching audiences beyond what other means of advertising can accomplish including radio, television, flyers, signage and billboards. The World Wide Web is everywhere, from personal computers in the home and work place and mobile devices in between. Your website will provide the information that your audience is seeking whether they came to your site by mention via the above means or by search engine lookups. This is your opportunity to provide information and to promote your business beyond what you can accomplish in other ways.

Q: What is the cost for purchasing a domain name?
A
: Your domain name is an integral part of your online presence. For many their business name can be used as at least a part of the domain name they choose. It is important to find out if the domain name you wish to use is available. Choose a domain name and make your purchase quickly and easily by clicking here.

Q: What will my monthly costs be to maintain the site?
A: Along with a minimal cost for securing your domain name (approximately $10/yr) you can expect to pay a hosting provider to house your website (GoDaddy also offers cost effective hosting packages). If you do not have someone in-house that can update your site for you then you can purchase site maintenance packages from Web Overture depending on the quantity, frequency and type of updates your site requires. Keeping your site up to date is important to keep visitors coming back to your site. Whether it's news and event announcements, adding locations, updating services and product offerings or updating images, you can expect to pay approximately $1k - $5k/year for keeping your website up to date.

Q: Why Web Overture?
A: Web Overture is a small woman owned business located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. With over 15 years of experience working in the web industry, Web Overture has the experience to create a web site that greets visitors with an easy to use, professional and informative interface. If you already have a site that needs updating but you are not sure where to turn, we also offer cost effective web consulting services to assist you with a plan to move forward.

Q: What is the process of getting my site up and running and how long will it take?
A: Most sites typically take a month from start to finish. Some of that time includes gathering content from you (like your logo in electronic format (if applicable) or text copy for each page of your site. If you do not have a logo, Web Overture can design one for you. Depending on the size of your site including pages, images and programming will determine the timeline.

Q: How involved will I need to be in this process?

A: The main areas in which you can expect to be heavily involved in the development of your website are the initial phase which includes discussing your likes and dislikes, work you've seen that you want to incorporate into your site and providing all content (text, images, your logo). See the getting started page and review the checklist to prepare yourself in moving forward. Once your project is under developement, you can expect to spend the necessary time to review the site after the initial launch, or preview phase. Remember no one knows your business as well as you do. We will of course offer our expertise in editing and look and design, but the bulk of the content in your site will come from you. We want to take your message and recreate it on the web.

Q: What should I include in my website?
A: Of course the answer to this question is specific to your business and your audience. Mainly you want to know who your audience is and then provide the information and tools they will be seaking. This can be as simple as information about your products and services, how to contact you, information about your business or organization and job opportunties. You also want to market yourself as much as possible by including testimonials from satisfied customers and showcasing your work. Provide useful information and keep your content fresh by answering industry specific questions and providing industry related news. By keeping your website content fresh you will keep visitors coming back. It's repeat visitors who will spread the word about your company.

Q: How much will this cost me?
A: If you have been shopping around you may have heard this response before: "What budget have you established for your website?". Site design costs can range considerably. Web Overture specializes in getting small to medium sized start up businesses and organizations up on the web. So it is our goal to work within your budget and knowing what your budget is will help us to do so. Do keep in mind that the cost of your site is dependent upon what you include in the site. How many pages you have isn't as much a factor as what you inlcude on those pages. Various factors like graphic design, photo retouching (or photo shoots) and optimization, Flash animation, etc. will affect the final cost. We will work together to come up with an affordable solution that will allow you to promote your business on the web right away. It is fully expected that as your company grows, so will your website. So with that in mind we will build an expandable site for you. Then as your budget allows we can grow your site as well. You can expect the original estimate of your site to be about 2/3 of the total initial investment. The reason for this is due to the natural tendency to want to add new features and elements to your site as the site takes form.
